about about

My name is Codie, a BSc Pharmaceutical Chemistry student at the University of Reading with a year of industrial experience at Resolian Analytical Sciences, a GMP-regulated contract research organisation based in Sandwich, Kent.

As a Student Scientist, I gained hands-on experience across a broad portfolio of solid-state analytical techniques including iGC-SEA, PXRD, DSC, DVS, TGA and SEM, contributing to pharmaceutical sponsor projects alongside self-directed case studies. Authoring formal client reports and maintaining compliance with GMP and ALCOA++ data integrity standards gave me a practical understanding of how documentation and data quality sit at the centre of regulated scientific work.

An independent case study investigating the surface energy of sucrose across modified particle sizes was submitted as a poster to the Analytical Research Forum 2026, with findings suggesting that processing route governs surface energy character more strongly than particle size alone.

Alongside bench work, I have developed practical experience in Python for data analysis and visualisation, and I am working towards a computationally focused final-year project that builds on skills developed alongside my placement.

Background

Whilst at university I spent several years as a Shift Manager at a £3M-a-year hospitality site, leading teams of 20+ people in a busy, compliance-driven environment. The role covered regulatory inspections, SOP enforcement and day-to-day business performance, including tracking KPIs, managing stock and contributing to internal audits. It is a background that complements laboratory work well; commercial awareness and operational discipline are more transferable than people tend to assume.

Outside the Lab

I am a STEM Ambassador through the I’m a Scientist programme, supporting student engagement in chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences through schools outreach. I also have a long-standing interest in graphic design, and find the overlap between visual communication and technical work genuinely useful, whether that is putting together a conference poster or laying out a report clearly.
